Background
In Japan, 4K/8K broadcast started on BS from December 2018. Currently, needs for transmission of super high-resolution video is rapidly growing in various industries including public-viewing that is associated with the largest-scale event to be held in 2020, medical care, and defense.
Rikei sells 4K video (UHD) encoders adopting H265/HEVC that meet these needs.
Overview
Makito X4, the latest model of Makito series boasting over 50,000 shipments in broadcasting, enterprise, and defense industries, offers real-time HEVC/AVC video encoding platform in a compact appliance or rack-mountable blade.
Designed for the strictest quality requirement for live video applications, the Makito X4 can ingest full 4K UHD or up to four HD inputs with 10-bit pixel depth and 4:2:2 chroma subsampling.
The Makito X4 mounts 8 powerful encoding cores (*1) that can securely and simultaneously deliver low latency multi-bitrate (*2) streams over any IP network.
And with the SRT protocol, the Makito X4 is ideal for streaming over unpredictable networks such as the public internet.
(*1) core: A central part of the CPU that is responsible for the actual processing. As the number of cores increases, the number of tasks that a PC can process at a time increases
(*2) Multi-Bit Rate: A method to deliver at an optimal bit rate according to the line speed of the viewer
Features
・4K UHD:
Support 4K UHD or Quad HD (*3) with 60fps (*4) .
・High density form factor:
Up to 84 HD inputs (or 21 4K/UHD inputs) and 168 encoding cores in a single 4RU chassis
Support SRT protocol:
Deliver live stream without packet loss over public line including internet.
Exceptional broadcast quality video:
HEVC/H.265 and AVC/H.264 live encoding supporting 4:2:2 10 bit.
Ultra-low latency:
Ideal for remote interactive applications such as live interviews and remote production (REMI) applications.
Secure video transmission by encryption:
Protect valuable video content with SRT protocol with AES-128/256bit encryption.
(*3) Quad HD: 4HD video stream can be input
(*4) Frames per second
Future development
Rikei will provide optimal systems to meet various needs, such as video transmission, content distribution, and relaying, focusing on the Japanese broadcast industry.
