For Digital Video Distribution, Rikei Starts to Sell ENENSYS’s “ASIIPGuard” Providing Automatic Switching between ASI and IP Signals in One Chassis

Rikei Corporation (Head Office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, President & CEO: Tetsuo Kuroda, hereinafter called “Rikei”) would like to announce that it has started to sell new ASI switch “ASIIPGuard” manufactured by ENENSYS Technologies (Head Office: France, President & CEO: Régis LE ROUX).

Nowadays, in addition to traditional DVB-ASI*1), a widely used interface designed to carry digital video content, IP distribution is becoming more and more common with an increasing speed of IP networks. Therefore, when operators and broadcasters install new distribution facilities, equipment such as transmitters and interface converters are often required for both ASI and IP, causing great concern about the initial investment costs and configurations.

The new “ASIIPGuard” provides switching capabilities between devices and networks in one chassis without the need for the user to care about ASI or IP.

Overview

ASIIPGuard not only supports widely-used traditional DVB-ASI, but is also equipped with ASI and IP interfaces on both input and output sides, enabling flexible switching between ASI and IP. In addition, when errors are detected, ASIIPGuard seamlessly switches from the faulty input to the valid input.ASIIPGuard also makes it possible to shave off any extra investment costs.

Features

  • Supporting up to six switching modules
  • Switching between DVB-ASI and IP
  • 2:1 or 3:1 automatic switch redundancy
  • ProMPEG CoP#3*2) supported
  • ETR290*3)–based error detection
  • Full SNMP v2*4) supported
  • Flexible switching conditions*5) configuration
  • Real-time monitoring feature
  • Easy-to-use GUI

*1 DVB-ASI: Transmission standard defined by DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting). DVB-ASI is used to carry video streams in cable, satellite, or terrestrial broadcasting facilities.

*2 ProMPEG CoP#3: Error correction based on the MPEG standard (standard for compression of video and audio) to avoid video data loss using forward error correction (FEC) at the time of data transmission.

*3 ETR290: Guidelines for monitoring MPEG-TS (one of data formats for storing and transmitting MPEG-2 data).

*4 Full SNMP v2: Protocol for monitoring and managing devices such as routers, computers, and terminals on TCP/IP networks.

*5 Switching conditions: Conditions defining what kind of error triggers switching under what circumstances.

Future Plans

By making use of our many years of past experiences in the broadcasting and digital video industries, we will actively promote and sell “ASIIPGuard” mainly to the broadcasting and digital video industries to provide robust and flexible digital video transmissions.

Sales Forecast

  • First year: ¥20,000,000
  • Second year: ¥40,000,000
