EXPECTATIONS FOR 3D ASSESSMENT/STUDY OF MAXILLOFACIAL MORPHOLOGY RIKEI DELIVERS AN ULTRAFAST 3D SURFACE IMAGING & ANALYSIS SYSTEM “3dMDface System” TO THE YOKOHAMA CITY UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE.
Rikei Corporation (Head Office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, President & CEO: Katsuei Aoyagi) would like to announce that it has won an order for the 3D surface imaging & analysis system “3dMDface system” produced and delivered by 3dMD (Head Office: Atlanta, U.S., Chairman & CEO: Christopher Lane) for Yokohama City University (Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, President: Tsutomu Fuse).
This 3dMDface System is a non-invasive 3D surface imaging device that captures craniofacial images at ultrahigh speed, as well as software that makes high-precision 3D data from the captured images for display and analysis purposes. A total of more than 1,200 3D camera units have been delivered around the world in the craniofacial, dental, oral surgery and plastic surgery fields.
Yokohama City University is doing research on the study of the following themes.
- 3D assessment of maxillofacial morphology
- Air passage simulation using fluid analyses
They have decided to adopt “3dMDface system,” as they valued its ability to capture images of subjects (e.g., infants), who cannot stay still at high speed eliminating data errors associated with motion and 3D software allowing combined analyses of CT imaging data and 3dMD surface images as useful for future studies.
The system adopted by Yokohama City University includes 3D analysis software “3dMDvultus software.” This software has the capability to simulate changes linked to surface images by combining 3dMD surface images output from the 3dMD system and data captured by CT/CBCT and specifying any position. This enables the user to view the patient’s craniofacial images in three dimensions and check various simulated images on the computer screen, causing high expectations for the acceleration of future research activities in the medical and beauty industries.
Features of 3dMD System and Software
- 180-degree face capture without the use of laser beams (with additions to the system, up to 360-degree capture is possible)
- Ultrafast capture speed of 1.5 milliseconds, preventing blurring of subjects (e.g., infants) who cannot stay still.
- Simple configuration, allowing for compact storage
- High-precision 3D surface images generated from captured images
- Import DICOM data output from CT/CBCT, enabling combined analyses
