Rikei Concludes Domestic Dealership Agreement with Haivision and Commences Sales of Encoders and Decoders with SRT

Rikei Corporation (Head Office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, President & CEO: Satoru Isaka, hereafter “Rikei”) is pleased to announce that it has concluded a domestic dealership agreement with Haivision Systems Inc. (Head Office: Canada, CEO: Miroslav Wicha, hereafter “Haivision”) and has commenced supplying the Makito X Series high-quality, high-density and high-profile AVC/HEVC encoders and decoders mounted with its outstanding proprietary Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) technology for video streaming transport and other applications.

Product Overview

Rikei has recently begun to deal in the Makito X Series. This is a series of end-to-end AVC/HEVC encoders and decoders featuring low latency, high security and high reliability.

Introduced to all Haivision products as standard, the SRT is an original transport protocol in which errors on the transmission path are corrected at the time of decoding and that ensures secure video transport based on encryption. In consideration of packet losses, jitters and variable bandwidth, it maintains video consistency and quality.

When it is used on the public Internet, satellite communication and other lines, it can bolster security based on encryption and protect against quality deterioration arising from packet losses and other factors.

Features

  • End-to-end transport with low latency and high quality
  • Multiple destinations assigned to individual streams
  • Efficient transmission is realized by using half of conventional band
  • Secure video transport supported by AES256
  • SRT’s original forward error correction (FEC) for ensuring high reliability
  • HD encoding at a maximum of four different bitrates per unit

* Forward Error Correction (FEC): A technology for detecting errors in reception data with the use of redundancy data added at the time of data transmission in order to correct the errors without retransmission

* AES256: A protocol based on the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption with the use of 256-bit encryption keys

Market Background

In the past few years, the video transmission industry has made the shift to digital at a tremendous pace. As we evolve into an advanced information-oriented society, the volume of data only increases, creating mounting needs for IP transmission of high-definition digital broadcast video. In addition, cost reduction and quality enhancement are among the missions always referred to by broadcasters today.

To resolve these challenges, Haivision offers solutions utilizing the SRT to distribute video at low latency and without fail even on public networks.

Future Developments

Rikei will offer and promote optimal systems mainly to the broadcasting industry in Japan in response to diverse needs for video transmission, content distribution, relays and other applications.
