Rikei Develops VR-based Video of Car Accidents Outsourced by Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co., Ltd.
Rikei Corporation (headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Satoru Isaka; hereinafter “Rikei”) announced that it has developed content that enables users to use virtual reality (VR) to simulate accidents while driving. The content will be used by dealer agencies of Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “Tokio Marine & Nichido”) to raise awareness about driving safety among customers.
Background of the development
Traffic accidents have been decreasing each year. Still, nearly 30,000 people are involved in an accident annually. The video content was developed with the aim of allowing customers to simulate an accident while driving to raise their awareness about driving safety.
Outline
From the Tokio Marine & Nichido’s archive of traffic accident cases, the video content simulates “a pedestrian running out from the sidewalk” and “right- or left-turn collision,” two common causes of traffic accidents, with the use of virtual reality. The new dashboard camera (Drive Agent Personal*1) would be automatically connected with the call center as soon as an accident occurs. The behavior of the dashboard camera is also reflected in the video.
*1 Drive Agent Personal: Rented by Tokio Marine & Nichido, this is a telematics service using the original dashboard camera equipped with communication function.
