Rikei Launches JAPAN USD Factory, a Digital Twin Asset Library Supporting NVIDIA Omniverse to Accelerate Manufacturing DX
Rikei Corporation (Headquarters: Shinjuku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Satoru Isaka; hereinafter “Rikei”), a leader in XR technology development for the manufacturing industry, is pleased to announce the launch of JAPAN USD Factory, a digital twin asset library designed specifically for the Japanese manufacturing sector. This innovative product precisely replicates materials and equipment used in Japanese manufacturing environments and is aimed at supporting manufacturers in their DX (digital transformation) initiatives. JAPAN USD Factory enables companies to seamlessly replicate their factory or warehouse spaces in a digital format, providing a robust solution to enhance efficiency across all stages of the manufacturing process—design, simulation, and operation—leading to significant productivity improvements.
Background
The manufacturing industry has recently faced intensified competition and a growing shortage of human resources, making the acceleration of digital transformation (DX) a pressing priority. Among the various solutions available, digital twin technology has gained significant attention for its potential to enhance operational accuracy and boost productivity. In response to this demand, Rikei has developed JAPAN USD Factory, a solution tailored specifically to meet the unique needs of the Japanese manufacturing sector.
Many of the tools and materials used in manufacturing are standardized and commonly shared across factories and warehouses. However, digitally replicating factories and facilities has traditionally been a time-consuming and expensive process for companies.
To solve this challenge, Rikei has utilized the NVIDIA Omniverse™ development platform (hereafter referred to as Omniverse) to provide assets(*1) like logistics pallets(*2) and racks, which are widely used in Japanese manufacturing, as part of JAPAN USD Factory. With Omniverse, companies can easily create applications and services to digitally reproduce their factory equipment in virtual spaces, driving the adoption of DX in manufacturing even further.
(*1) Assets: Components such as images or 3D models used in the development of digital content, including XR applications. (*2) Logistics pallets: Platforms used in the logistics industry and in factories for tasks such as transporting, loading and unloading, and sorting cartons.
Features of JAPAN USD Factory
1.Fully Developed in OpenUSD
All assets are built entirely using the Universal Scene Description (OpenUSD) format(*3). This ensures full compatibility with Omniverse and other OpenUSD-supported tools, enabling seamless and efficient integration across diverse tools and workflows.
2.Faithful Representation of Manufacturing Equipment
Assets such as pallets and racks are designed to accurately replicate standard equipment commonly used in Japanese factories. These assets are specifically tailored to the unique requirements of manufacturing sites, ensuring both realistic and practical representations.
3.Fully Customizable with Easy Texture Application
Providing flexibility to freely customize assets to meet customers’ specific needs. By utilizing Rikei’s material library, users can effortlessly apply textures to models, achieving a high degree of realism. The library is also compatible with custom in-house models, further expanding the potential for highly realistic simulations.
4.Fine-tuning Enabled Even After Implementation.
Detailed adjustments can still be made after implementation, ensuring long-term adaptability and seamless alignment with evolving operational needs.
(*3) Universal Scene Description (OpenUSD): A data structure developed by Pixar Animation Studios for managing the components needed to render 3D content and other visual materials.
